About Towse

The people behind Towse.

Towse is payroll software for Isle of Man practices. This page is about who makes it, and why.

Our story

How Towse came together.

Towse brings together two kinds of experience: knowing how each figure in a payroll is reached, and designing software to be easy to use.

Michael and Simon work through Towse together, deciding what a practice needs to see at each stage of a pay run, and what it doesn’t.

Towse is payroll software for Isle of Man practices. Michael has run payrolls in it on a computer and on his phone.

Michael Quayle

01 · Payroll and accounts

Michael Quayle

Michael is an accountant. His grounding in payroll comes from his work at Douglas City Council.

That payroll combines weekly pay from timesheets with salaries, many pay scales from different areas, each with its own rules, and uplifts. Each item of pay raises the same questions: is it taxable, is it pensionable, is it liable for National Insurance, and does it come off gross pay? He brings that working knowledge of how each figure is reached to how Towse works out pay.

02 · Design and build

Simon Bloom

Simon designs and builds Towse.

He is a user experience designer. His aim is to make each step of running payroll easy to follow, and to leave out anything a practice doesn’t need at that moment.
